Drawing from the work of Marie-Louise von Franz, this experiential workshop explores how psyche and matter meet in moments of meaningful chance.
Von Franz examined time, number, archetype, projection, and synchronicity through practices such as tarot, astrology, dice, and other divinatory forms. Rather than dismissing these tools as superstition, she approached them psychologically and asked how meaningful patterns emerge when we consult chance.
In this gathering, we will:
Explore Jung’s theory of synchronicity
Examine the role of archetype and projection in divination
Engage hands-on with tarot, dice, Sabian symbols, bibliomancy, and symbolic play
Reflect on how symbolic engagement transforms raw experience into insight
Consider divination as a subtle form of psychological alchemy, where chance becomes meaning
This workshop is both scholarly and experiential. Participants will rotate through interactive stations and reflect on how symbolic systems constellate insight.
Facilitator: Bethany Ward is a Haden-trained Spiritual Director, Jungian-oriented dream worker, and formally trained evidential medium in the British tradition through Arthur Findlay College. She is a former religious professional within Unitarian Universalism and has lived her life at the intersection of mysticism and inquiry. Her work explores how psyche and spirit converge in ordinary life.
This event invites thoughtful curiosity and active participation. No prior experience with divination is required.
Event takes place at the Fairlawn-Bath Library. 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
While there is no charge for this event, we appreciate you registering if you plan to attend.
