This workshop will explore Jungian structures of the Psyche, how its conscious and unconscious processes function in the development of the personality, and traditional and contemporary Jewish concepts of the soul in its relationship to the Self and others. In particular we will look at how defense mechanisms can protect the self and inhibit growth at the same time, and compare them to Jewish concepts of the Yetzer HaRah (evil impulse) and the Yetzer HaTov (good impulse) as expressed in traditional Jewish teachings and the contemporary Mussar (ethical self-improvement) movement.
